Interviews

chaseKILLS.com had the PLEASURE of interviewing Boy Meets Girl creative director, Stacy Igel. The fact that she took the time out to conduct an interview so close to Fashion Week shows her undying passion to her craft.
chaseKILLS: Your story in fashion is quite an amazing one, is it true that you were the fashionista in kindergarten?
Stacy Igel: Afraid so… I was a bit of a tyrant. My friends wanted to come over to play with their Strawberry Shortcake dolls but I’d make them strut their stuff up and down my staircase in my Chicago home all day. Fashion has always been a part me; always what I wanted to do.
cK: Can you give us a hint of what we can expect from Boy Meets Girl S/S 2011?
SI: Live Streaming on boymeetsgirlusa.com sorry the rest is a SURPRISE
cK: With fashion always being a progressive field, where do you see your brand in 10 years?
SI: EVERYWHERE… oh and if OPRAH can hear me OPRAH before season ends!!!
cK: A little vanity question.. what do you think of the site? (now you know I was going to ask!)
SI: I really like it. It gives a voice of who you are and I like what you cover. I am honored to be your first interview. Keep believing in what you do and you will succeed.
cK: If you stopped working in the fashion industry, what would you be doing?
SI: Retired sipping pina coladas with my husband on the beach and reading trashy novels. In another life, I’d really like to be a Playboy; you know, someone who can just chill out all the time.
cK: You have had MANY celebrities and socialites wear your clothing, what does that say for your brand?
SI: I think it says that the brand has a distinctive voice and that its innovative. Its always such a compliment when someone like Rosario Dawson, whose work I admire so much, is wearing BMG in a gossip mag on the way to the supermarket or the gym or something. I love that my brand is a part of someone like that’s life.
cK: Can you tell us which celebrity you haven’t had the opportunity to work with that you would love to see in your clothing?
SI: A shot of Michelle Obama in BMG would be a nice little feather in my proverbial cap. Sarah Palin would be unendingly amusing. Kate Moss – she’s such a fashion icon. I’d be thrilled to see her in BMG. Oh, and Chloe Sevigny who is quite possibly the coolest chick on earth.
cK: What was running through your mind the very FIRST time you debuted your clothing on the runway?
SI: OMG is this really happening. Someone please pinch me.
cK: You have done many runway shows, to you, what describes a truly successful show?
SI: Energy. It comes from the top down. If I’m feeling it backstage then that translates to the models. I’m very careful about the type of girls I choose for runway and look books – they have to be incredibly energetic and confident, but not the type of girl that takes herself too seriously. The goal is for the audience to leave my show energized by the music, the models and, of course, the collection.

cK: Many of the readers of chaseKILLS are aspiring designers or just looking to get in the fashion world period, what is the best advice you would give to the young fashion hopeful?
SI: You’ve got to have fortitude. Building a brand is a marathon and it will test you in every way. You need to be smart, thick skinned and driven as hell. My advice is to know yourself and your strengths and weaknesses before you jump in. That way, you can play to your strengths and you can align yourself with people who can help you with your weaknesses.
